Communication · Executive Insight Brief · 195
Plenty of discussion. Conditional disagreement.
Conversation and conformity scores reveal perceived family norms while health parenting quality and shared reality remain unmeasured.
Premise
Extensive family discussion does not necessarily mean disagreement is welcome. The Revised Family Communication Patterns Instrument gives leaders and practitioners a more precise distinction by measuring conversation orientation separately from conformity orientation. It also preserves a crucial relational insight: members of one family may experience the same communication environment differently. The instrument maps perceived norms; it does not produce an objective family score or diagnose the quality of a household.
