Stuck, not unwilling
Field Theory of Conflict reads impasse as a configuration of attractions, threats, barriers, and competing directions in the life space, not weak motivation or difficult personality
Premise
People can be strongly motivated and still remain stuck. Kurt Lewin’s Field Theory of Conflict explains conflict through the current “life space”: the person and the psychologically effective environment, including attractive and aversive regions, barriers, social forces, and possible routes of movement. Conflict appears when that field generates incompatible directions.
This changes how hesitation, vacillation, and avoidance should be read. An executive delaying a decision may not need more urgency; two units fighting over access may not need better tone. The relevant diagnosis is what attracts, repels, blocks, or redirects movement now, and whether the intervention changes that field rather than merely exhorting the actor.

Theories & Explanatory Models
Explains how or why a communication process works by relating mechanisms, conditions or variables. Its value is an account that can guide inquiry into what produces an outcome, rather than a name for the outcome alone.
