The SCCT Crisis Matrix: Put Stakeholder Protection Before Reputation Strategy

Protection before reputation

A documented chain from evidence and responsibility to response posture keeps crisis communication ethically and strategically coherent today.

Premise

Crisis teams often select a message before agreeing on responsibility, stakeholder harm, or uncertainty. An SCCT-based matrix reverses that order. It records the evidence, probable stakeholder attribution, crisis history, prior reputation, affected groups, information needs, and proposed response in one decision trail. Its primary executive contribution is disciplined coherence: the organization cannot quietly change its classification to justify a preferred posture, and reputation management cannot precede information people need to protect themselves and cope.
