Original news-value factors

Knowledge

The original news-value factors are twelve criteria proposed to explain which events become news: frequency, threshold, unambiguity, meaningfulness, consonance, unexpectedness, continuity, composition, elite nations, elite people, reference to persons and negativity. They describe interacting selection pressures, not an invariant standard of importance.
