Call-and-response as participatory meaning

Knowledge

Call-and-response is a pattern in which audiences answer, affirm, repeat, complete, or otherwise join a speaker’s performance through verbal or embodied responses. Speakers can use those responses to pace or redirect communication, though not every overlap is supportive or suited to every setting.
