A–B–X Model of Communication

Knowledge

Newcomb’s A–B–X model examines two communicators’ orientations toward each other and a shared object. Communication maintains, tests, and revises that system, with discrepancies sometimes increasing pressure to communicate. It develops related consistency concerns without merely renaming Heider’s triad or guaranteeing that communication produces agreement.
