Examine the problem before buying the solution
Soft Systems Methodology makes conflicting purposes and worldviews discussable before an organization commits to one diagnosis, model, or intervention.
Premise
Soft Systems Methodology begins where conventional improvement work often begins too late: with disagreement about what the problem actually is. Competent stakeholders can frame the same situation as a capacity failure, an autonomy issue, an information breakdown, a governance problem, or something else entirely. SSM does not force those accounts into one objective definition at the outset. It uses them as material for inquiry. The executive gain is diagnostic discipline before investment: action follows from an examined framing rather than from the first plausible problem statement.
