Close the decision. Keep the objection.
Machloket l’shem shamayim treats principled disagreement as compatible with communal responsibility when argument serves something beyond factional defeat
Premise
Organizations often treat disagreement as a temporary defect that must end in consensus, victory, or managerial closure. Pirkei Avot 5:17 preserves another possibility: a dispute can be worthy precisely because the participants remain accountable to a purpose beyond private advantage even when disagreement endures. The schools of Hillel and Shammai are given as the positive example; Korah and his congregation as the negative one.
For executives, the transferable insight is not to import religious language as a conflict technique. It is to distinguish reasoned dissent that remains inside a shared field of responsibility from argument organized primarily around ego, faction, domination, or humiliation.
