Self-reported flexibility still needs witnesses
Six communication dimensions turn a vague judgment of flexibility into testable hypotheses about how a person adapts across social demands.
Premise
The Communicative Adaptability Scale (CAS) makes a broad communication judgment more precise. Robert L. Duran framed adaptability as the capacity to read changing social-interpersonal demands and modify goals and behavior in response. The scale separates resources that can otherwise disappear inside labels such as “good communicator” or “executive presence.” For leaders, its value is diagnostic: uneven self-reported adaptability can indicate where to investigate interactional fit. A CAS profile remains a perception measure, however; whether adaptation was effective has to be shown in observed interaction.
