Premise
Intercultural failures begin when familiar labels are mistaken for universal meanings. A cautious answer may be called evasive, restrained language weak commitment, or directness clarity without asking how appropriateness is judged in another communicative tradition. Budibasa offers a culturally grounded alternative for reading Malay communication.
The model was reconstructed from proverbial wisdom rather than imposed from a Western theory. It connects budi, appropriate language, thirteen values, five maxims, and keseimbangan or harmony. For executives, its value is diagnostic: it replaces broad cultural stereotypes with questions about truthfulness, prudence, respect, context, proportion, and relational responsibility.
