Information overload is a mismatch between informational demands and available processing capacity. Diagnosis considers complexity, contradiction, interruption, relevance, and task conditions alongside volume. Design should provide requisite information and evaluate decision quality, missed signals, and effort, since reducing message counts alone can also remove necessary information.
