Ask what makes refusal costly
Compliance-gaining research separates the behavior sought from the reward, sanction, expertise, obligation, legitimacy, relationship, or other influence mechanism recruited to obtain it
Premise
Getting someone to do something is not one generic communication act. Compliance-gaining research shifts attention toward the actor choosing among requests, promises, warnings, appeals, rewards, pressure, favors, authority, and other influence moves. The central question is which mechanism the message recruits and why that tactic appears usable in the relationship.
This changes management diagnosis. The same sentence can be routine between peers or coercive when a supervisor controls valued consequences. Immediate compliance says little by itself about message quality; authority, dependence, legitimacy, and the costs of refusal belong inside the analysis.

Model
In this series, Model names the editorial family primarily used to understand and explain communication: theories, frameworks, effects, traditions, principles and other conceptual resources. It is an umbrella for a route into the field, not a claim that every included object is a predictive model.

Analytical Frameworks, Typologies & Heuristics
Organizes dimensions, distinctions, types or questions so that a situation can be examined systematically. A framework supplies structure, a typology distinguishes forms, and a heuristic offers a usable way to orient judgment.
