Memory keeps the drama, not the pattern
Repeated, near-event records can expose when communication breaks down without inventing a universal diagnostic score.
Premise
Leaders remember exceptional conversations and compress routine experience into broad judgments. A communication diary creates a different evidence base: repeated records made close to the event. It can reveal that rework clusters in one channel, conflict intensifies under one condition, or a leader’s effectiveness varies by time pressure and audience. The method is valuable precisely because it is customizable. There is no canonical Communication Diary, validated universal item set, or single score.
